@Xavier: "what if I should be using some approach everyone knows about except for me, but instead I’m doing it this way… …"

To be honest Xavier, that does sound an aweful lot like a fear of performing badly, and other people thinking you are silly for not using their method.
I everyone kept using the same methods, we would still be walking around in furs, or sitting in our caves without light or warmth.
Doing something different then the rest is an experience in itself, and quite possibly the discovery of something greater then anyone has ever come up with before you.

Don't do something different from someone else, but do it more like yourself. :)

Very well done! Nice to have these things written so clear for a change. Makes procrastination suddenly seem extremely pointless.

I have another personal favorite reason not to start with something. Speaking about pointless. What if (the mother of all fears) I am not using the best method to achieve the thing I want? Aka "what if I should be using some approach everyone knows about except for me, but instead I'm doing it this way... ...maybe I should reconsider my intended approach first." Read: maybe I should procrastinate until pressure on me (or in me) reaches the level that I start doing it anyway, regardless of the approach, and usually very rapid and with successful outcome. So that I can say to myself once more: "Now why exactly did I wait with doing this again?" :)

Thanks for the article Mark, hope to hear more from you soon!

In the light of personal growth, failure is not only allowed, it's a requirement.

This is an excellent article, Mark!
